Teak can grow for hundreds of years with a maximum growth of 30-40 meters high and 1-1.5 meters in diameter. In Indonesia, the spread of teak cultivation is centered on the island of Java. Although teak is also grown in other areas such as Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and grows limited to Sumatra and Sulawesi, Java is considered the best place because the climate, temperature and soil conditions are most suitable for teak. These are the advantages of Teak:
1. Tough and Adaptive Teak is a tree and type of wood that is proven to be strong and resistant to all weather conditions when it has been converted into furniture. Teak has the ability to survive in extreme heat conditions which sharpens its strength. One known ability is to molt or drop its leaves in the very hot dry season. This natural ability of teak reduces evaporation during the dry season and maintains water content in the roots and stems. This is because in the dry season there is no available water in the soil to be absorbed. In molting conditions, teak will look withered and dry, even though it is a survival mechanism. During the rainy season, then the teak leaves will grow again and develop like plants in general.
2. Indonesia’s and the World’s Favorite Furniture Materials When extracted into wood, teak has the characteristics of being strong, durable, weather-resistant, termite-resistant, and exotic with fiber streaks and glossy varnish. The price also becomes expensive because of the long growth time. Teak in good condition must at least grow for 20 years or more to have the characteristics mentioned earlier. Teak is also a sought-after commodity in woodworking centers. Jepara is the most famous, followed by Bojonegoro, Blora, and several other areas on the island of Java. Not only in demand and decorating homes in the country, teak has also been transformed into a commodity for export by entrepreneurs of teak wood, which is often also called golden wood.
3. Teak Wood as an Investment With its expensive price, there are people who understand the wood industry and choose teak to be their main business or even an investment for themselves and their families. With the relatively cheap price of seeds, especially when compared to the sales that can be obtained, teak is used as an investment instrument. You just need to understand more deeply the cultivation system and the legality of teak to be maintained and later sold. The teak industry is managed and supervised by Perum Perhutani which requires teak growers, sellers, and entrepreneurs to follow rules made to protect sellers and buyers and prevent the risk of theft and smuggling.
