Teak wood is valued both for its appearance and durability. Beyond its beauty, it also has some natural properties that other forests don’t have. The teak tree comes from, Tectona Grandis, native to the tropics.

Since the 7th century, it has been used to decorate residences. They used wood for shipbuilding; teak for boat wood is very good because of its ability to prevent dry wood rot.

Teak is found in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Burma and Malaysia. Since the postcolonial era of the Indonesian state circa the mid-20th century, the Indonesian government has had a company in place dedicated to managing one of its most valuable natural resources. The Indonesian government maintains an official teak plantation on the Indonesian island of Java. Here, a predetermined number of trees can be felled each year and each tree replaced with a new one planted in the plantation.

And because the best wood furniture is made from teak that comes from mature trees, it can take about 80 years before the teak trees planted today are harvested to become furniture wood. For this reason, old teak wood is often reclaimed, for example, from old structures that will be torn down and given a new appearance as furniture.
