Lines give meanings and impressions for those who see it. When you see lines, you will feel something. For example: How do you feel when you see fence which is represented by zigzag line? What about when seeing sea which is represented by horizontal line? Compare those feeling. Are they different?
THE MEANING OF VERTICAL LINE
Vertical line is a line that is perpendicular up or down when we see it. You can see vertical line on light poles, coconut trees, multi-storey buildings, ladders, etc.
Vertical line means that something looks upright, rigid, sturdy, higher, and even horrific as if you stand under the highest building in the world. When you use vertical line, it means you want to bring out those impressions.
THE MEANING OF HORIZONTAL LINE
Horizontal line is a transverse. Horizontal line means that object looks relaxed, bigger, wider, and spacious. Those meanings give serenity impression. For example: garden or park or sea (dominant horizontal lines) will give you serenity impression.
THE MEANING OF DYNAMIC LINES (DIAGONAL, CURVED, AND ZIGZAG LINE)
Dynamic lines give energy and movement on the structure of a room. They could chase attention longer.
Diagonal Line
It is a virgule that stands alone or opposite each other. It gives dynamic impression or as if the object is moving or to seek for attention. It is really not compatible for making work room because it can disturb our concentration. We will feel like we are disturbed by the object which always seeks for attention.
Curved Line
Curved lines can form an upward curve, downward curve, curved to the side and waving. Curved line means happiness where everyone could smile and happy when he or she sees it. Example: recreation spot.
Zigzag Line
Zigzag line is straight lines connecting each other to form sharp angles when we look at them. Zigzag line means spirit, passion, and fast move.
